Its original creator had done a great job for that era, but by 2001, the NEADC website was showing its age in both form and function. It had an early 90's tiled- image background that made text hard to read, a large serif typeface, and was missing sections that had become more important as the Internet became more important.
I was looking for a chance to become re-involved with a group I'd been part of for more than a decade, and this was a good way to do it.
My tasks included:
-
Creating an entirely new information architecture. In particular, the site needed to become the official repository of Club rules, financial statements, and minutes of meetings, to relieve the space crunch in the monthly printed newsletter.
-
Surveying club members to determine which features would be most valuable to them.
-
Creating a totally new look-and-feel, that emphasized the club's realtionship to the venerable New England Aquarium.
-
Creating and slicing all graphics, and coding HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
-
Performing weekly updates to keep the site a fresh and useful source of information to the members.
* After a 3-year tour as NEADC Webmaster and a member of the Club's governing board, I handed the reins to my successor. That's why the links on this page take you to an archived version. :)
