This online gradeschool science curriculum was developed by Judy Vesel at TERC. It is now in commercial distribution through Charlesbridge Publishing.
My tasks included:
- Complete design of the user interface including headers, buttons, and the signature images for the homepage and the individual Units.
- Design and presentation-layer coding of page templates.
- Creating over 95% of the many original charts, drawings, photos, and illustrations.
- Paper prototype testing of the UI with teachers and students.
- Invention* and design of a widget that allows users to change text display size without any knowledge of browser controls.
* These widgets are quite common today, appearing on Dell.com and ESPN.com, among others. However, to the best of my knowledge this affordance was introduced in 2001 on ”Leveraging Learning,” the original prototype for ”EnViSci Network.” Or maybe it was simply an Idea Whose Time Had Come. :)
